Tessa Vermeulen of Hai
Much of the inspiration for Tessa Vermeulen’s silk bags and accessories comes from her formative years living between China and the Netherlands. Now, based in London, the designer maintains those international connections through her brand, Hai.
Since China was of such importance to Tessa’s life growing up, she knew she wanted the country to play a key role in the physical products as well; all of Hai’s products are manufactured in China using Chinese silks. The brand name comes from the Mandarin word for “sea” because of the way that silk imitates rippling water. We love the bags’ unique, shiny colors, the simple, playful hair accessories, and the occasional peak of a different material (hello velvet! hello bamboo handles!).
