Theo Martins of BREDA

 

Theo Martins is the creative mind a timeless brand needs in the micro-trend modern day. A multi-disciplinary artist, he recently joined the watchmaker BREDA as Creative Director. 

Building his brands Cereal & Such and Posture, Theo has a way of breaking objects and garments down to their core meaning and the ways in which they connect us to each other. With Cereal & Such — the overarching bond was hanging out and getting to know someone over a bowl of cereal. By similar logic, Posture was born from a love of walking, and the realization that upon moving from New York to Los Angeles, the love of the leisurely walk was not as ubiquitous. In a city notorious for cars and gridlock, he wanted to influence others to walk, so he started a walking club — replete with a playlist, insoles, and apparel — to build connection no matter where one is at. 

Theo worked with BREDA as a collaborator through his work at the brand Carrots, and now he’s the Creative Director behind the brand, bringing play and meaning to a brand that calls upon our most valuable asset: time.

WHAT DOES A WATCH REPRESENT IN 2022? A reminder that time doesn’t exist.

HOW YOU GET AND STAY INSPIRED: I am constantly thrown into problem-solving predicaments for which I am alert and alive. I sorta live in that space. 

AS THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF YOUR OWN BRANDS, AND NOW CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT BREDA, TELL US HOW YOU APPROACH CREATIVE PROJECTS AND COLLABORATIONS: It’s all about devotion. A devotion to the craft and a desire to truly understand the inner workings of the said work. The throughline between my roles is that it requires a level of care and attention for which I am happy to offer.
